Glest is a free 3D real-time cross-platform fully customizable real time strategy computer game where player control the armies of two different factions, the Tech and Magic. Tech faction is mainly composed of warriors and mechanical devices while Magic deals with mages that summons creatures in the battlefield. The game is set in a period reminiscent of the Middle Ages.
The Tech faction uses traditional human warriors with arsenal of medieval mechanical devices. The Tech faction is strong in hand to hand combat and plays more like other strategy games but with several twists and turns. Tech is great for beginners to get used to the game, but can also be deep and challenging for experienced players.
The Magic faction is geared towards more advanced players. The units can be morphed or summoned from others though it lacks the hand-to-hand combat strength of the Tech faction. They are more versatile and have a powerful ranged attackers that can match or even exceed the power of their technician counterparts.
Glest is not just a game, but also an engine to make strategy games as it is based on XML with set of tools. A few mods already exist and new features are continually added with Glest Advanced Engine, a completely separate engine that is also cross-platform.
