GIMPshop: GIMP with a familiar look

| Tags: , ,

If you use Photoshop, but need an open source alternative, GIMP is the way to go. As a brief backgrounder, the GIMP is a powerful, open source image editing software that we have already featured here at AlternativeFront.com. However, the Gimp’s menu structure and naming conventions had been a constant source of frustration for some users who are used to Photoshop’s graphic interface. Because of this, GIMPshop was created.

GIMPshop is basically just a GIMP with some cosmetic changes. GIMPshop is simply a modification made on top of the original GIMP program which changes all menus, dialogs, etc., in order to make them look and feel as much as their counterparts in Photoshop.

Many of the menu options and even whole menus were recreated to faithfully reproduce a Photoshop-like experience. This makes users who are already familiar with Photoshop user interface including its layout will feel just right at home in this open source application.

GIMPshop is quite good and has essentially every feature that Photoshop has. It’s a great idea specially for any other designers out there who knew Photoshop like in the back of their hand and so that working something in GIMP will feel just the same. GIMPshop makes the GIMP more accessible to the many Adobe Photoshop users out there. Download your copy here.
